Harry Potter magic wand

Harry Potter bought his wand the day after his birthday from Mr Ollivander in Diagon Alley for seven Galleons. Harry tried many different wands before he found the right one.

The wand that Harry chose was 11 inches long, made from the wood of a holly tree and had a phoenix feather at its centre. This feather came from Dumbledore's phoenix Fawkes, who gave exactly one other feather to Ollivander. The wand that had that feather as its centre was none other than that of Tom Riddle, better known as Lord Voldemort.

Wands made of holly are among the rarer ones. They are often considered protective. Furthermore, they are usually sought out by witches or wizards who have a dangerous and often spiritual task to fulfil. Something that applies to Harry more than anyone else.

Holly is very difficult to combine with a core made from a phoenix feather, but if it does succeed, the result is a very powerful wand. Wands with phoenix feathers sometimes act of their own accord, something that many people find annoying. Harry's wand did this too, but it saved his life.

After Rowling decided on a holly wand for Harry, she came across the Celtic Tree Calendar. She realised that she had coincidentally chosen the right wood for Harry's birthday and then decided to match Ron and Hermione's wands to create a secret link between the three of them.

 

The story of "Harry Potter magic wand"

Harry first used his wand in Professor Flittwick's wizardry lessons, where the students learnt how to levitate a feather with the spell Wingardium Leviosa.

When Harry wanted to save Hermione from a troll together with Ron, his magical abilities were not yet sufficient to fight it. He was still able to use his wand, however, because he stuck it up the troll's nose without further ado.

In Harry's second year at Hogwarts, the memory of Tom Riddle used Harry's wand in the Chamber of Secrets. He used it to write his name "Tom Vorlost Riddle" in the air, only to swap the letters so that they read "is Lord Voldemort".

Harry was only an average student in most school subjects, but he was exceptionally talented in Defence Against the Dark Arts. As early as third year, he managed to conjure a Patronus in the shape of a stag, an extremely advanced protective spell. He was later able to use it to protect himself and his godfather Sirius Black from the Dementors.

While attending the Quidditch World Cup, Harry briefly lost his wand. Barty Crouch used it to conjure the Dark Mark, the sign of Voldemort.

In the following fourth year, Harry unwillingly took part in the Triwizard Tournament. By manipulating Voldemort with the help of his loyal follower Barty Crouch Jr, Harry won the tournament together with Cedric Diggory.

To their surprise, the trophy was a Portkey, which took them both to the graveyard in Little Hangleton, where Peter Pettigrew and Lord Voldemort awaited them. Cedric was immediately killed by Pettigrew before Voldemort was given a body again in a cruel ritual for which he needed Harry's blood, among other things.

He forced Harry to fight a duel with him. However, when he tried to kill Harry at the same time as he fired a disarming spell at Voldemort, a rare effect called Priori Incantatem occurred.

This effect occurs when twin wands are duelling and shows the last spells of the one with the lesser will to attack. As Harry's willpower was greater, Voldemort's wand revealed his last spells.

Harry's screams could be heard as he was tortured before the shadows of Cedric Diggory, Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins and Lily and James Potter, Voldemort's last victims, appeared. Harry was able to use this to escape from the graveyard again with the Portkey.

In his fifth year at school, Harry, Ron and Hermione formed Dumbledore's Army, a group that trained for the upcoming battle against Voldemort.

As Harry was very talented in Defence against the Dark Arts and had already gained a lot of practical experience in combat, he was able to teach the other members a great deal. He taught them disarming and shock spells and the students were even able to conjure a Patronus after a few months.

Gegen Ende des Schuljahres reiste Harry mit einigen Mitgliedern von Dumbledores Armee nach London zum Zaubereiministerium. Dort kam es in der Mysteriumsabteilung zum Kampf mit einigen Todessern.

Als Harrys Patenonkel Sirius Black von Bellatrix Lestrange getötet wurde, jagte Harry dieser hinterher, um den Mord zu rächen. Dies war das erste Mal, dass Harry seinen Zauberstab für einen unverzeihlichen Fluch nutzte, den Cruciatus-Fluch.

Doch er schaffte es nicht, Bellatrix zu treffen bevor Voldemort erscheint. Bevor dieser Harry aber töten kann, eilt ihm Dumbledore zur Hilfe, um sich mit Voldemort zu duellieren.

Im folgenden Jahr begeben sich Harry und Dumbledore auf die Suche nach einem Horkrux. In der Höhle, in welcher es versteckt war, muss Harry gegen Voldemorts Armee aus Inferi und Untoten kämpfen. Einzelne kann Harry zwar besiegen, doch gegen die große Anzahl ist er unterlegen, so dass Dumbledore ihm zur Hilfe kommen muss.

Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Hogwarts müsste Harry ansehen wie Dumbledore erst von Malfoy entwaffnet und dann von Snape getötet wurde. Wütend über den Betrug Snapes, dem Dumbledore vertraute, jagte Harry ihm hinterher und feuerte Flüche auf ihn. Doch sowohl den Cruciatus-Fluch wie auch Sectumsempra, einen von Snape erfunden Fluch, kann dieser einfach abwehren.

Bei der Schlacht der sieben Potters, als Harry und einige Mitglieder des Ordens des Phönix von Voldemort und seinen Anhängern angegriffen wurden, musste Harry gleich gegen mehrere Todesser kämpfen.

Voldemort erkannte nach einiger Zeit den echten Harry und nahm dessen Verfolgung auf. Um ein erneutes Priori Incantatem zu verhindern, hatte er sich zuvor Lucius Malfoys Zauberstab genommen und versuchte mit diesem Harry zu töten.

Doch Harrys Zauberstab erkannte Voldemort dennoch und setzte sich eigenständig zur Wehr, was Malfoys Zauberstab zerstörte. Dumbledore glaube, dass dies geschah, weil Harrys Zauberstab bei dem Duell auf dem Friedhof einen Teil von Voldemorts Fähigkeiten absorbiert hatte.

Als Harry ein halbes Jahr später mit Hermine nach Godric’s Hollow reiste wurden sie von Voldemorts Schlange Nagini angegriffen. Hermine konnte Harry zwar mit einem Sprengfluch vor ihr schützen, allerdings wurde Harrys Zauberstab dabei beschädigt. Die Überreste davon bewahrte er auf, obwohl sie nicht mehr zu reparieren waren. Und so teilte er sich für eine Weile mit Hermine ihren Zauberstab.

Anschließend nutzte Harry einen Schwarzdorn-Zauberstab, den Ron zuvor einem Greifer abnehmen konnte. Doch dieser gehorchte ihm nicht sonderlich gut.

An Ostern wurden die drei gefangen genommen und auf den Landsitz der Malfoys gebracht. Während einer Befreiungsaktion des Hauselfen Dobby konnte Harry Draco Malfoy den Zauberstab aus der Hand reißen. Da er diesen Stab von seinem vorherigen Besitzen gewonnen hatte, gehorchte er ihm deutlich besser.

Draco, der zuvor Dumbledore entwaffnen konnte, war zu diesem Zeitpunkt unwissentlich der Meister des Elderstabs. Doch da Harry ihn ebenfalls entwaffnet hatte, wechselte damit gleichzeitig auch die Loyalität des Elderstabs zu Harry.

Vorerst nutzte Harry den Zauberstab von Draco. Während des Einbruchs bei Gringotts nutzte er ihn für einen weiteren unverzeihlichen Fluch, dieses Mal den Imperius-Fluchs.

Auch in der Schlacht von Hogwarts setzte Harry Dracos Zauberstab ein, unter anderem im Duell gegen seinen vorherigen Besitzer, welches er für sich entschied.

Im finalen Duell mit Voldemort glaubte dieser, dass er Harry problemlos töten könnte, weil er im Besitz des Elderstabs ist. Doch da Harry der rechtmäßige Gebieter über den Elderstab war, verweigerte sich der Stab ihn zu ermorden.

So konnte Harry Voldemort endlich bezwingen und in der Folge auch den Elderstab an sich nehmen. Diesen sollte er aber nur ein einziges Mal nutzen, bevor er ihn zerbrach. Mit Hilfe des mächtigsten Stabs konnte er endlich seinen eigenen Zauberstab reparieren.
