Harry Potter wands
A magic wand is particularly important at the beginning of your wizarding career to help you channel your magical power. Spells also work without wands or verbal calling, but this requires a lot of concentration and is only possible for very experienced wizards.
Wands are made and sold by wand makers. The logo of my website is therefore modelled on Ollivander, a magic wand maker from Great Britain, so that you feel like you are in the virtual Winkelgasse. Another very famous wand maker is called Gregorowitsch.
Each wand is made of a special wood that surrounds a core of magical substance. Even if two wands have the wood from the same tree and the same core, they are not exactly the same. To investigate this and learn more magical properties, you need to study wand lore or use our wand guide.
All Harry Potter wands at a glance

Harry Potter's magic wand
Harry Potter bought his wand from Mr Ollivander in Diagon Alley. It is 11 inches long and is made from the wood of a holly tree, while the core contains a phoenix feather.
The wand has been through a lot. It was once stuck in the nose of a troll and was unfortunately broken by Hermione. In the end, however, Harry was able to repair it with the Elder Wand.

Hermione Granger's wand
Hermione also received her wand from Mr Ollivander. It is 10 3/4 inches long, the wood is made from a grapevine and the core is made from dragon heart fibre.
Wizards with such a wand are able to conjure the most powerful spells - perfect for Hermione.

Lord Voldemort's wand
Tom Riddle, better known as Lord Voldemort, also got his wand from Mr Ollivander. It took a long time, but in the end it was a 13½ inch long wand made of yew wood. The core is made from Fawkes' first phoenix feather.
He used this wand to create seven Horcruxes through many murders. He also regularly used unforgivable curses.

Albus Dumbledore's wand
Not much is known about Albus Dumbledore's first wand. He probably acquired it from Gerbold Ollviander, the grandfather of Gerrick Ollivander.
After a battle with Grindelwald, which he won, he took his wand from him and from then on was the owner of the Elder Wand.

Luna Lovegood's magic wand
Luna bought her first wand from Mr Ollivander, while she had her second wand specially made by him.
This wand is made of brown wood and has the design of a tulip. This flower symbolises spring, which fits in with the time of Luna and Ollivander's liberation.

Draco Malfoy's wand
Draco also bought his wand from Mr Ollivander. At 10 inches, it is one of the smaller wands, but it is "quite springy".
The wand is made of hawthorn wood and has a unicorn hair core.

Severus Snape's magic wand
Professor Snape probably bought his wand from Mr Ollivander in Diagon Alley in 1971. At around 13 inches, it is one of the longest wands in existence. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the wood and the core, even though others may claim otherwise.
Snape was a very talented wizard and created his own spells, such as Levicorpus or Sectumsempra. He was also gifted at brewing potions and used his skills to improve the recipes of others and create his own.

Newt Scamander's magic wand
Newt probably bought his wand shortly before he started school in 1908. It was made from lime and oak wood, as well as bones and shells. The wand is 14 inches long, which may indicate a great personality.
Newt was a very talented pupil, but was expelled from school when he stood up for the pupil Leta Lestrange. In 1918, he began writing his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and travelled around the world to do so.

Sirius Black's wand
Sirius probably bought his wand from Mr Ollivander in Diagon Alley before he started school. Neither the length, type of wood nor the magical core of his wand is known.
Sirius was already a very talented wizard when he was at school. He could transform himself into an Animagus, but was a very nasty pupil in his teenage years and enjoyed teasing James Potter, especially Snape.
